Abstract Text

You will be joining a live demonstration from the BioAFM labs of Bruker Nano Surfaces in Berlin, Germany. We will start with a theoretical introduction of how the structure and mechanical properties of biological materials can be characterized with our state-of-the-art instruments. In a further overview of the combination with advanced optical microscopy on transparent and non-transparent samples, we will emphasize the advantages of immunolabelling techniques for truly correlative microscopy.

In the experimental section, we will show the technical implementation of an experiment with living cells and focusing on automated sample imaging and mechanical analysis. We will discuss how a perfect overlay of optical and AFM data with sub-diffraction accuracy can be reliably accomplished with a single click. Through an innovative sample stage design, we will show how a wide choice of scanners, together with optical tiling and multi-region AFM probing, enables multiparametric characterization of soft samples over a large area and provides additional optical data sets.
